Book Review- Hate List

I rencently finished reading a book by Jennifer Brown entitled Hate List. I  really related to this book because it's about a school shooting and how you never really know when people that you think you know are going to do something totally unexpected and you're left to clean up the mess they have made. The book was totally powerful and should be required to be read by all schools. It lets teenagers know the effects that bullying can have on kids and that you never know when it could be someone's last day that you think you hate, but then when they're gone you never get to apologize for the hurtful things you have done to them. It could be direct or indirect bullying that some may not even consider bullying at all. The point of the book was to tell Valerie's story and the struggle that she had picking up the pieces after her boyfriend held a schoo shooting that killed and injured many people from the hate list that they made together Overall I recommend this book to all teenagers because everyone needs to know the effects that they have on eachother, knowingly or unknowingly. I give the book 5 stars for portraying the emotions of everyone in the book so realistically.

Current Connection #3

In a recent article by Fox news, a widely viewed and respected news station, entitled 'Government Report on Secret Flying Saucer Programs Made Available' the author informs readers about a secret program by the Air Force to build a flying saucer and of the problems with the idea.
Neil Carmicheal tells us "The records have been classified probably since their creation during the '50's". Obviously, the records were meant to be very secretive and very important.
Also stated in the article, "The newly released documents...offer details on a cold war era plan to build a round, vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that can only be described as a flying saucer". By that information they know that the design was meant for a vehicle during war and that explains why the information about this design was classified.
Although this sounds like a very useful invention, the design was not perfect. Carmicheal explains "Apparently, as it gained in altitude it would start to wobble uncontrollably". The saucer could not go high enough becase the machine could not handle the altitude.
Maybe a 'flying saucer' will be available for us one day but for now we just have to stick to cars, planes, and boats.

Current Connection #4

In a recent article by Veronique Greenwood entitled Why bacteria, but not humans, can live on caffeine, the author informs readers of reasons why humans are not able to live one caffeine, and why some bacteria are.
In the article she states "the specific reason caffiene isn't an energy source for us, thus, is because we don't have the gear to digest derivatives further". Our bodies are just not able to do as much as we would like them to, and digesting caffiene is one of those things which is why we can't get energy from it.
Another quote in the article says, "...It possesses several enzymes that do things to caffiene that we can't. Specifically, it breaks down the two carbon and nitrogen rings at the molecules core." Basically, the bacteria is able to do more things with caffiene and get more nutrients out of it than humans can, making it possible for them to survive.
For those coffee lovers in the world, there is hope! "...We are a veritable rainforest when it comes to bacteria." We dont know for sure yet if we have the right bacteria in our body to digest caffeine, but our bacteria varies so much that it's very possible.
As many people have hoped, with more research scientists might one day make it possible to actually live on caffiene, that would definitely make a hyper society!

Book Review - 13 Reasons Why

When I finished reading the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher it gave me a new perspective on my classmates and some of the reasons why teenagers commit suicide. This book was very powerful and everything I hoped it would be. I picked it up because I wanted more insight on why exactly a person could feel that depressed to take their own life, reading about Hannah's tapes was so emotional I wanted to cry by the end of the book. I recommend this book to everyone in Highschool including teachers. It made me realize how much people are affected by little things everyday that other people don't even notice. Once you start reading this book you will not be able to put it down until the very end.

BucketList

13 Reasons Why
By Jay Asher

I want to read this book because it will help me understand more about what drives teenagers to commit suicide. When I lived in Cave City there were two teenagers in my school who committed suicide and hopefully this book can help me to understand why. Also, Id like to read this book because Mrs. Gillmore recommended it and according to her it is very powerful, moving, and everybody should read it.

Fifty Shades Darker
By E.L. James

The first book in this trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey, has been one of my favorite books that I have read so far, which is why I'm excited to read this one which is next in the trilogy. At the end of the last book Anastasia left Mr. Steele and I'm very curious to find out if she will come back or not.

Fifty Shades Freed
By E.L. James

This is the last book in the Fifty Shades trilogy so of course I'm excited to read it to find out what happens in the end. The whole Fifty Shades trilogy has had really good reviews and people have raved about it and from what I've read so far it seems to be good but I want to see how it gets better.

Before I Fall
By Lauren Oliver

Last year in my English class my teacher read about 5 pages of this book to us and just from that little bit I was hooked and I've been wanting to read it since then. This book has had good reviews so that's always a positive. Also, the books main character is a teenager so I like to read books that I can relate to in some way.

The Hunger Games
By Suzanne Collins

I'm not sure why I haven't read this book yet because almost every teenager in the world has read this and everyone loves it. I've already seen the movie and it was awesome so I'd like to see how the book relates to the movie, and which is better.

Memoirs of a Geisha
By Arthur Golden

This book spiked my interest because I watched a movie about a Geisha recently and it was awesome because I love learning about different cultures in the world and Japanese culture especially interests me. I could probably learn more from reading a book about the subject than by watching a movie so I'm excited to read this.

Just Listen
By Sarah Dessen

Remembering 9/11

Building a new World Trade Center will show terrorists that even though they brought us down once America will always rise up again bigger and better than before. Also, the WTC sends a message that America is safer and better prepared for another attack.
The new building features a memorial to remember the victims of 9/11, and new safety features which will protect people in the building better in case of another attack. Examples of these new safety features are the elevators which go 23 mph, and the 3 feet thick concrete walls.
The new WTC is an act of patriotism because we are proving to the world that America can not be defeated.
